My six figure bank account sure gives me a lot of self-respect.
Last Sunday was a beautiful sunny 80 degree day in LA.
I was at brunch at an outdoor cafe enjoying mimosas.
My loan owner friend down the street was sanding and painting doors.
He was frowny face.
This is mind-blowing:
“Students at a small Pennsylvania college are demanding that administrators rename a building called “Lynch Memorial Hall” because of the racial overtones of the word “lynch.”
The building is named after Clyde A. Lynch, who was president of Lebanon Valley College from 1932 until his death in 1950.
The school’s website says Lynch led the college through the Great Depression and World War II and raised $550,000 for a new physical education building. The building that bears his name houses several academic departments.”
http://www.nbcphiladelphia.com/news/local/Pennsylvania-College-Building-Lynch-Memorial-Hall-Racial-Overtunes-Lynch-Clyde-A-Lynch-Lebanon-Valley-College-361200551.html
This is the next round of “buyers” I’ll be “competing” with soon.
I did not think there was racism “up north”?
But they haven’t called for Loretty Lynch to change her last name.
Good catch!
Gee, that’s so clever, calling her Loretty. I bet that bothers her tremendously.
Kids used to demonstrate against things like war and real discrimination. Now it’s about feelings and being special.
Good thing it isn’t the Lynch Memorial Observatory.
From the article:
—–
“Students want school officials to either rename the building entirely or add Lynch’s first name and middle initial, saying the word recalls the public executions of black men by white mobs in the late 1800s and early 1900s.
It was included on a list of demands that students presented to the school on Friday. Other demands include a more diverse curriculum, more sensitivity training for staff and regular surveys of the racial climate on campus.”
—–
IMO, adding the rest of the guy’s name to the building is reasonable. It does seem rather odd to see a building that just says LYNCH on it. The rest of the “demands” are bunk.
It is absolutely not reasonable. There were plenty of buildings named only with the family name at the schools I went to. The Dean should offer to help them transfer to another school.
The one consolation I can think of regarding these useless and entitled cry babies is that I won’t have to worry about them stealing my job. I’m sure that great careers await them pouring coffee.
Ironically, a job in which one cannot demand being treated with “sensitivity”.
One Grande cup of “Rude Awakening”.
And grab a bag of Cheetos while you’re back there.
And yet - every one of them is an obama/Hillary supporter…
it gets even worse, drive through the south, these people cant even pour coffee. Toothless, dropout zombies in Red States. 97 / 100 of the poorest counties are in red states.
This is the next round of “buyers” I’ll be “competing” with soon.
You assume that they will have real jobs and incomes. They’ll most likely be pouring coffee at Starbucks.
I have a friend who recently quit his job of 10 years as a supervisor at Starbucks. I asked him why? he said he was tired of managing 20 somethings….what will you do now I asked. “Spend the $200,000 I’ve made in the last 10 years working at Starbucks from their stock program” My jaw dropped. He is currently touring the US and won’t start working again until he runs out of money.
I’m not sure who the sucker is, the engineer slaving away 40 hour weeks or my barista friend who works little, owns nothing but a car, and travels around the country exploring.
Timing in a Ponzi is everything. The Starbucks business model was to buy Real Estate and take the appreciation as their primary profit driver. So I’ve heard, no direct experience. That being the case, the winner might have been the engineer in the cube investing spare change in Bubble stocks. $2000 20 years ago gets you > $200,000.
Sounds great, except “touring the US.” I’d go for the Grand Tour, Asia, then South America. $200k would last 20 yrs.
“You assume that they will have real jobs and incomes. They’ll most likely be pouring coffee at Starbucks.”
Ah, yes, well thankfully they’ll probably qualify for an FHA loan.

COP21: African campaigners demand compensation for effects of global warming
Tom Bawden Environment Editor, Paris
@BawdenTom
African campaigners are demanding compensation for the huge damage being inflicted on the continent by global warming – a problem that has been caused by the rich countries but will hit poor nations the hardest.
As the United Nations summit to tackle climate change nears its conclusion, African politicians and NGOs are calling for the developed world to provide cash to help them deal with the consequences of a warming planet.
Compensation should cover everything from storm damage and crop failure to desertification and forest degradation, the African nations say.

If you don’t know who the mark is at the table, it is you.
No doubt some monies will move around, like wolves in sheep’s clothing.
Why not. There are no US politicians that want to stop spending and balance the budget. Not one. It does not matter what party. Dems want to tax & spend and Repubs want to just spend. So let’s give Africa another trillion or three; it won’t get paid back.
Focus on being a burden on government itself. Accumulate precious metals, cash, crypto currency, short term treasuries. Be sure to collect social security at its fullest when you retire. And Medicare. The point is to crowd out defense spending and force it all to be cut by rapidly increasing demand to be paid back what government robbed you.
Wait, you want to crowd out defense spending, when your career was funded by defense spending?
And since when has defense spending been “crowded out?” If Congress runs out of money for defense spending, they’ll just borrow the money and run a deficit. Bush didn’t even write it down.
And if someone does tell Congress to stop borrowing so much, they tend to crowd out everything else except defense spending, stuff like food stamps and medicaid and education… … and privatizing Medicare with vouchers (thank you Paul Ryan)…or raising YOUR Social Security age so you would collect less.
We have to build up Defense to take on the challenge of an ever growing Chinese military. If we have to sell more bonds to do that, we can sell more to the Chinese; no, what??
You are delusional oxide. You still claim I work in defense. I been in commercial since 2013.
I used to think defense spending was needed but discovered what Ron Paul wrote and I also turned against George W Bush. It took awhile.
Our “defense” would cost a LOT less if we took the “offense” out of it.
Don’t BS me, Bill. I specifically did NOT claim that you “still” worked in defense. I said that your career “was” funded by defense spending.
I know how to use past tense.
Back in 2005-2006 or even later, you were bragging that you were 47, lived with your sister, had x-number of $100K in the bank/precious, and could retire whenever you felt like it. In other words, you had already had a career and made your pile — by the grace of defense spending — long before you went commercial.
After 20+ years of sucking off the government teat, 2 years of private sector does not give absolve you of belittling that same government.
You are delusional oxide. You still claim I work in defense. I been in commercial since 2013.
Oxide spoke in past tense (”was funded”), and Oxide has a point. The nest egg you’re so proud of was feathered with DoD $. You had no moral issues creating weapons to kill people as long as you made a buck. I don’t recall you ever repenting of that, and I suspect you believe that you don’t need to do so.

Listening on the radio this morning I heard that both the US and the oil producing countries are insisting that this be “taken off the table”
Is OPEC engaged in a campaign to deliberately drive U.S. producers out of business in order to gain market share? I’m wondering if this is a case where the U.S. should subsidize its oil producers to help them weather this coordinated economic attack by foreign rivals?

OPEC sees plunge in prices taking toll on U.S. shale producers while its own output rises
OPEC trimmed its estimates for supplies from outside the group in 2016 on Thursday as it expects the plunge in prices to takes its toll on the U.S. oil industry and other rival producers in the coming months.
The Organization of the Petroleum Exporting Countries cut 2016 estimates for non-OPEC output by 250,000 barrels a day to average 57.14 million barrels a day, its Vienna-based secretariat said in its monthly market report. The group said U.S. shale-oil production had been declining since April 2015.

Get your @ss in the game!
I’m notoriously early on these type of situations. Oil has ALOT farther to fall from here, as the U.S. economy is currently peaking.
Seems like we never really got any real liftoff and we are headed back into a recession again.
Is inflating asset prices really a recovery? That’s what it seems like. Create a bubble and then have taxpayers mop up the carnage after the collapse and then start over again?
There is a lot of fluff in stock prices thats for sure.
Most of the good jobs created over past 8 years were in energy and now opec is hell bent on selling at any price cause that is all they have.
There’ll probably be a recession sometime in the 25 years. It’s reasonable to say that, anytime that we’re not in a recession, that we’re heading towards one. He not busy being born is busy dying.
Candidly, I don’t think we are headed for a recession yet. While asset prices are high, the level of economic activity seems to be modest (ie. not to overheating yet). Leverage levels for some parts of the economy is going to get people in trouble (oil and gas, and maybe private equity), but household didn’t get themselves back into trouble yet (the Fed’s measures of household debt service are actually pretty good).
Household formation is expected to be strong in 2016…and that’s a big driver of growth.

less than 50% of the long term trend.
Over 1.5MM households per year is less than 50% of the long-term trend?
Then why haven’t we ever built more than 3MM housing units per year if 3MM new households each year is the long term average?
With 25 million excess empty and defaulted houses in the US(4.4 million of which are in CA), why would anyone build more houses?
“the U.S. should subsidize its oil producers”
Why do you hate lower prices?
Producer subsidies would drive prices even lower, by encouraging more U.S. production than otherwise.
I love low prices!
the U.S. should subsidize its oil producers
Isn’t that what our military does?
Just burn the oil Lola. Use it like there’s no tomorrow. We have so much of stockpiled at $1.40 gallon we’re using it in sprayers to napalm weeds last summer. It’s cheaper than GroundClear.

I hope he ends up destroying the corrupt, sleazy, oligarch-owned establishment GOP.
He’s well on his way to ensuring another Clinton term in the WH, as clearly Hillary trumps Trump.
With 47% of ‘Muricans on the government teat and 95% demonstrably stupid, there was never any question that Hillary would be our next president. Still, I love how Trump threw a wrench into the works, even though I don’t agree with a lot of what he’s said.
In a contest between an establishment republican and Hillary Clinton, America loses no matter who wins.
“Jimmy Carter is Hitler.” Aren’t you cute?
On one hand, we have Carter, who just bravely conquered cancer, and has been selflessly dedicating his life to humanitarian causes. A man of integrity who quietly lives up to his beliefs with work and his own hands.
On the other, we have you, a sniveling coward who hides behind a tasteless and immature username.
Jimmy Carter is 1,000x the man you are.
Jimmy Carter was the worst president ever until George W Bush came along.
Why do you have to be such a hateful angry white man? You sound like one of Trump “voters.”
The Story Line Dissolves
“Both Trump and Hillary have the mojo to destroy their respective parties and I think the probability is that they will. Unfortunately, we don’t live under a parliamentary system that recognizes smaller factions as legitimate parties, so we are sure to live through an era of political disorder. What emerges from that could be a very severe polity, since it will be based on the wish to restore order at all costs.
It is likely to get the shove it needs from the implosion of the financial system, which is now running on the fumes of dwindling credit. A false capitalism reigns based on false capital — notional wealth where there is really no wealth; value where there is no value. Moments like this in history beat a path straight to currency collapse, and that will open the door to a greater collapse of all our familiar arrangements.
Surely there is some kind of massive unseen sensory organ in societies that receives the signal that systems are failing. And surely it spooks the individuals who make up those societies so badly that they will believe anything and do anything.”

+1 for Kunstler.
I read his book “The Geography of Nowhere” 20 years ago and it was life changing.
Parliamentary countries aren’t doing much better.
I love his commentaries; but, none of his prognostications have come anywhere close to true:
Oil at $200.00? Nope. No oil? Nope.
Highways crumbling? Not down here.
Stock market collapse? Nope.
Everybody leaving the hot South to move to freezing rural New York to farm? Nope.
Abandoned skyscrapers? Nope.
If I recall correctly, in Kunstler’s fantasy, the ideal location and climate to survive a resource war was the upper rural South — outskirts of Appalachia, basically. But he was anticipating that the upper rural south would be crowded with evangelical Christian rednecks (for lack of a better word) armed to the teeth and unwelcoming of yanks. Kunstler chose rural New York because he thought there would be more “community” there, or something.
Rural NY is much to cold in the winter. I guess they could cut the trees down and burn them for heat . . .
“I love his commentaries; but, none of his prognostications have come anywhere close to true:”
That hasn’t stopped the Global Warming or um Climate Change movement and their supporters from rolling full speed ahead.

Donald Trump and the GOP Primary of Horrors
Debra J. Saunders | on July 10, 2015
Donald Trump is the GOP’s Voldemort, the Dark Lord and villain of the Harry Potter children’s book series. To thinking Republicans who don’t want to go through another circle of hell like the 2012 presidential primary, Trump is He Who Must Not Be Named. When a partisan mistakenly utters his name, media dementors — soulless creatures who sail through the airwaves — pop out from nowhere and suck the oxygen out of the hapless offender. Helpless and filled with dread, some victims die, while others slip into nothingness. The dementors will not relent. They want to turn the primary into a pain-inducing referendum on the Dark Lord.
…
Lol, let’s try to scare people with characters from children’s tales.
Why stop there? Let’s have Ming the Merciless, Jabba the Hutt, Vladimir Harkonnen.

It’s the magical time of year again. Of course that means it is time for the tax free conversion of my nondeductible traditional IRA to a Roth. This 6,500 will probably turn into 13,000 in 8 years based on typical performance of the fund since 1976. Kachink! By leaving it in a traditional IRA and cashing out in 8 years the distribution taxes would make me end up with $11,000.
when you lose all your money in this rigged casino will you be sure to let us know?
“Of course that means it is time for the tax free conversion of my nondeductible traditional IRA to a Roth.”
Q. Why don’t you put your money into a Roth in the first place?
“nondeductible traditional IRA”
If it’s a nondeductible traditional IRA then what advantage does it have over a nondeductible ROTH? Why not put your nondeductible money into a ROTH is the first place?
My (weak) understanding is any money generated by a traditional IRA (nondeductible or otherwise) is taxable but money generated by a ROTH is not, so (if this is correct) why go into a nondeductible IRA in the first place?
I earn too much money to invest directly in a Roth IRA. It is a crazy tax law but the loophole allows you to do a backdoor Roth conversion. The catch is that all your nonRoth IRAs are counted (commingled) and anything above the year limit is taxable. So you can put excess IRAs back into your traditional 401k and avoid that tax now, or you can start with a $0 amount in a traditional IRA every new year. A lot of people do not understand this trick. A Vanguard fund representative from the retirement investments division can help or your tax accountant can help.
Ok. Thanks.
My wife and I have two traditional IRAs with $0 balances, two Roth IRAs (with much larger balances), a Roth 401k (with company match).
The company match is non-taxable, but you can convert that to Roth as well (by paying the tax on what you convert on the year of the transfer).
As of right now, we have converted all of our retirement accounts to Roth. Our contributions to a Traditional IRA would be taxable money anyway, so each year we contribute to the Traditional IRA, and then convert shortly thereafter.
It’s completely screwed up, but as long as the conversion is legal, we’re taking advantage. Eventually, I suspect that backdoor will be closed, but not until we have walked all of our retirement assets to date through that door. The tax bills were painful…but it will be awfully nice to pull out the dividends tax free later, and NOT be required to pull out minimum distributions.
Yeah I have nearly half and half, traditional to Roth. I stopped traditional 401k in 2013 and now do a Roth 401k. Made the big Roth conversion in 2010 where you could divide the tax over two years. That was dumb luck, since the stock prices were relatively low.
I’ll be able to legally take distributions without penalty in 3 years.
How are you accomplishing this “tax free”?
I’m very much interested in knowing how that is done.
Me too. I’ve read it here before but the procedure was never discussed.
See above.
I am over age 50. I earn over $115k per year so I cannot directly invest in a Rot IRA.
In a simple scenario, start off with $0 every January in a nondeductible traditional IRA. Now, start contributing. Let’s say a lump sum of $5,000, which is your limit probably.
When you see your contribution in a statement, and you are full into your annual limit, convert it all into a Roth IRA. Your fund representative can help over the phone.
I like to wait til the end of the year because I dollar cost average weekly for 50 weeks. I also wait for the final dividend and gain distribution. Say that $5000 grew to $$,200 in December. You convert $$,200 to the Roth.
In April the next year you pay taxes only on the $200 you converted.
Note in a nondeductible IRA you contributed 5,000 after tax. So that you will never again be taxed on that $5,000. But you will be taxed on its gain.
But once you convert it to a Roth, you will not be taxed on its gain.
The catch is that you have to be sure to move the remaining IRA portion that you do not want converted, into a traditional 401k prior to the conversion. Otherwise the entire comingled tradional IRA is taxed - even if different accounts!
In ten years if the average gain of 10% still happens like it did in the past, that amount will be now worth say $10,000. But you are not taxed on $4,800 of it. On the other hand if you did not do the conversion, you take full distribution after ten years and are taxed on the additional $4800. Roth total taxable amount $5,200. Tradional total taxable amount: $10,000.
Fill your deductible IRA or 401K to the limit before considering Roth, I think.
If you contribute to a deductible IRA, that amount you contribute is pre-tax. So if you convert any of that amount to a Roth, it is taxable. I cannot deduct for several reasons: High income and I already have a 401k plan at work.
I want to stress the word “nondeductible” in my posts above (as my alter ego Bill, Just south of Irvine)
“Fill your deductible IRA or 401K to the limit before considering Roth, I think.”
It all depends on your expected tax rate in retirement.
If you expect your tax rate to be low, then I think you are right.
However, if you expect your tax rate to be just as high in the future as now, better to pay your tax now. On $5,000 you will pay $2,000-$2,500 now. It effectively allows you to invest $2,000-$2,500 MORE than you would otherwise and reap tax-free gains on that $2,000 to $2,500 for as long as you are invested.
Most of us are not going to have a 6 figure payout per year from our retirement savings.
If you are 25 years old today, and you start investing in your IRA to the greatest extent possible, and that investment grows by 7% per year, and there is 2% inflation (increasing how much you can contribute over time, but decreasing your purchasing power), you will have $2.1MM in your retirement account at age 70. 1% greater in return (from 7% to 8%) is another $700k.
There are lots of stocks that even in today’s low rate environment pay a 5% dividend…there is your 6 figure income. However, factoring in that 2% inflation, your income on your savings would be the equivalent to about $44k per year in today’s dollars. Good, not great, but you’re paying taxes.
If you have a wife who also works and saves, that’s a total of $4.2MM.
Now you are doing pretty well, and the tax bite is larger.
If either of you also have a 401k that you max out (today’s limit is 18,000 per year), but you only work until age 60, and then live off the return on that money until 70, you will have another $3.3MM.
Add in a company match?
You are now going to Europe frequently, and yes, you are paying taxes.
And that excludes what anyone might save outside of their retirement accounts, or Social Security.
And before you say that’s unrealistic, I have never had a 401k (so my IRA isn’t juiced by 401k rollovers), but have diligently saved in an IRA. My IRA balance handily exceeds what my model shows I should have at this point on my way to that $2.1MM.
We need to stop with the “no one can make very much from their retirement savings” rhetoric–because with diligent saving, a large number of us (especially most college graduates) should be able to do just fine.
RentalFraud,
With the median HH income of $44k/yr and prices that are rigged and fixed at a grossly inflated level, nobody is maxing out a 401k.
You’re deluded.
Yeah, lol. If you’re 25 or 35 with a wifey, most are maxed out on credit. The big house has barely any furniture and there’s sprogs on the way. By the time they are on the carpet, you’re cashing in the 401K, less tax and penalty but thanks for the match, to buy the van to do the soccer mom thing. By the time one wakes up from this donkey mill, there will be no $2million.
Yet Starbucks has revenue of $5B per year selling overpriced $4 Lattes, 1/3 of Americans have $400 iPhones so they can play Candy Crush and spend real $ on digital feed for their digital animals on their digital farm while camping out for 12 days to see a movie that they will spend another $30 on when it comes out with extended scenes in 8 months, hoping to not throw up their $6 burrito (after getting poisoned at Chipotle) on the girl in front of them in line who is standing on a $500 PhunkeeDuck because she doesn’t want to wear out her $150 LeBron James Shoes, so when she pays $200 to see the Kobe vs. LeBron final game, she might impress the King enough with her shiny kicks that he’ll sign her fake t*ts in magic marker.
There is plenty of frivolous spending in our $17T economy…not nearly enough savings.
You’re one of the biggest bullshitters on the planet my friend.
My 2 cents worth: when I was in my early 20s average starting salaries for engineers right out of school were around $20,000. We were told to expect lifetime income of $500,000. I guess factored into inflation that would be in the $millions over 35 years.
I started my career at 26 (I was a perpetual student until my dad got upset) with only a savings of $4,000. I did not start tax deferred investing until I was 29. And I maxed out all my tax deferred investing from the start. In the mid 90s I started investing in IRAs and maxed out. I have dollar cost averaged for 26 years now. Anyone in that time period could have done better than me. Anyone my age could have invested 7 years more than me and probably have saved double what I saved.
My tax deferred plans amount to just short of $1,000,000 (they surpassed a million for a few weeks in the summer).
Rental is right. Anyone in their early 20s could do much better than me. Engineers start at $70,000 or so these days. 401k contributions were limited to maybe $8,000 annually when I started. IRAs were limited to $2,000 annually into the mid 90s and now are at $5,000.
Don’t forget all the folks paying over 50% of their monthly income on housing. There is a sizable swath of U.S. households which has nothing left to save after paying the bills.
Bill, I’m a recent college grad working in engineering, and I don’t know anybody who is making less than $100K.
Bill, why don’t you move the entire $5,200 to the Roth IRA?
If the $5,000 portion of the Traditional IRA was nondeductible, then you have a $5,000 basis in your Traditional IRA…only $200 of the conversion is taxable.
We contribute our $5,500, and then convert all of it…none of it is taxable, since we contributed after-tax dollars.
Rental - yes I do move the entire amount. Not sure if what I wrote seemed to suggest I only moved the gain to the Roth.
I would move the entire $5,200 to the Roth at conversion time.
Yeah, you said that you moved $200 to the Roth, and the rest to your 401k–that seemed goofy to me.
So, why do you wait to convert and pay tax on the $200? Just because you like to average into the market over the year?
I also prescribe to averaging into the market, but I don’t do so on a monthly basis, but average on a yearly basis, and avoid paying tax on the gain…
Seems like the benefit from averaging into the market might be negated by the tax you pay on any such gains upon conversion.
it is just a personal preference to DCA. Because when I started in my own IRA I first contributed all at once in January and then the market took a big dive sometime during the year and I was down by the end of the year.
The expenses are low enough in the fund that I can do it.
I have a managed fund (non-retirement) with a high expense ratio (0.6 or 0.7) and outside of Vanguard. I pay steep fees. So in that case I buy a set amount once a year. That is after all distributions. Final distribution is usually December 27.

you need to sacrifice your savings interest so checks can be sent out to help fight climate change!
What savings interest? Or for that matter, what savings? The majority don’t have a pot to piss in.
Yeah, it’s a phony issue. If there are any people out there with hundreds of thousands in CDs, they probably also have big stock portfolios or paid-off houses or high incomes.
there is no interest because the fed has to keep rates low for the national debt to remain serviceable and the deficit spending to continue.

Muslims hate us because we are not muslims.
Islam is a religion based upon cruelty to the unbeliever.
Their founder and prophet was a slave trader, slave owner, paedophile, rapist, mass murdering theif and liar.
Radicalized muslim are just mulims who actually live their life as their founder did as documented in the koran and hadith.
So, according to the right wing websites that you read, the vast majority of Muslims are bad Muslims.
The vast majority of muslims ignore most of the koran and the life of mad mo.
But you never know when a muslim will wake up one day and become a good muslim.
Which is code for being radicalized.
I guess that the guy who shot up the clinic in Colorado Springs would say the same thing about Christianity. He’s a good Christian who acted to save the lives if innocent babies. The other 99.99999% of American Christians who never engage in such violence are bad Christians.
‘Feinstein vows to offer bill to pierce encryption’
“I have concern about a Playstation, which my grandchildren might use, and a predator getting on the other end talking to them and it’s all encrypted,” Feinstein said. “And so I think there really is reason to have the ability, with a court order, to be able to …. get into that.”

‘while she now contends that her intent is simply to restrict certain “bad” guns (based upon totally arbitrary criteria her staff has established), that claim doesn’t jibe with what she told CBS’s 60 Minutes. Upon seeing her Clinton gun ban enacted in 1994, she said: “If I could have gotten 51 votes in the Senate of the United States for an outright ban, picking up every one of them . . . ‘Mr. and Mrs. America, turn ‘em all in,’ I would have done it.”
‘Feinstein told the Associated Press on November 18, 1993 that: “Banning guns addresses a fundamental right of all Americans to feel safe”. Yet referring to a time when she believed she was the target of a terrorist group, the senator expressed a very different viewpoint to colleagues during April 1995 Senate hearings on terrorism. She said: “And, I know the sense of helplessness that people feel. I know the urge to arm yourself, because that’s what I did. I was trained in firearms. I’d walk to the hospital when my husband was sick. I carried a concealed weapon. I made the determination that if somebody was going to try to take me out, I was going to take them with me.”
‘Feinstein’s proposed restrictions would be determined purely based upon cosmetic features such as pistol grips and bayonet attachment mounts.’
‘As for those excessive “high-capacity” magazines, who determines what that means? If more than one person breaks into your home at night, how many bullets are enough?

“Could Trump Become One Of America’s Greatest Presidents?”
http://www.zerohedge.com/news/2015-12-09/trump-could-be-one-our-greatest-presidents
It will be a miracle if he gets the republican nomination. Too much noise around him.
And all the noise, not to mention smelly wind, generated by the media circus. This is why Trump is winning, because they’ve lied and cried wolf many times too often and people are sick of it. It’s to the point where, if the media says he’s a big bad wolf, then he must be a saint.
To my knowledge, Trump has never murdered anyone. The last few “saints” we’ve had for president, not so much.
You have to get elected first before you can start murdering on a grand scale.
SnowFlake,
Do you think he’ll continue O’s job?
I’ve read that every single president since the end of WW2 has been guilty of war crimes. The least bad was probably Carter, though he still supplied weapons to thuggish governments around the world. It seems unlikely that Trump would be more peaceful than Carter.
Trump to Obama: “You’re fired!”
Obama to Trump: “It doesn’t work that way. I leave office on 1/20/2017, when my term ends.”
Trump’s gonna kick the killing up a notch, bomb the sh!t out of them, start torturing again, the whole nine yards.
“It’s about security now. We’re gonna have to do things we never imagined before.”

couldn’t care less about the killing.
Sounds like you’re the one who’s suddenly forgotten where he left his high horse. Supporting someone who tells us in advance he’ll bring back torture, increase bombing greatly.

I read that it actually declined to somewhere near 40%. Of course, the large number of baby boomers retiring every year should cause it to increase.

It won’t. I’m sure Hillary will hold the door open for him on her way in.

I was lukewarm on him for awhile, but watching the media, the GOP establishment and my leftists friends exploding all simultaneously is putting me firmly in to his camp.
They’re obviously terrified - otherwise they wouldn’t be so unhinged right now trying to take him down.
My leftist Facebook friends are now in this frenzy about banning anyone they find that has “liked” Trump.

you fascist little weenies…
Trump is the out-of-shape pot-bellied fascist who’s destroying the Repubs. I saw this coming.
I guess that’s on great thing about Facebook In 2015 Fascism takes the form of unfriending people. If Facebook was around 80 years ago, Hitler could’ve skipped the wars and the death camps and just attacked his enemies on FB.

“We”? You’re so blinded by bias you can’t even admit the truth to yourself.
Trump is a racist proto-fascist. Don’t run from it. It’s your Party (and you can cry if you want to).
Trump isn’t operating as an approved agent of my unrecognizable Republican Party. That seems pretty clear even for someone like me who avoids the TV dramascape.
What I learn here on the HBB is that socialists first accuse of something without basis and then condemn based on the accusation. It’s an old theme.
So, step up. Is there a basis for your accusation, or is it one of the Pineapple predictions of what someone is going to morph into in their imagination?
I think he is a run o the mill doofus who is pissed off and has enough money to act out. He couldn’t exactly run as a socialist against Hillary could he?
If you don’t have time to check the party line for a response I totally understand.
Trump isn’t operating as an approved agent of my unrecognizable Republican Party.
Oh yes, Trump is operating as the approved agent of your whackjob Party. You Repubs made him and you Repubs own him. He’s yours.
What did you expect? Something different? I saw this coming years ago. I’ve spoke of the Repubs devolution into hate and division for years.
And it’s a sight to see.
So, you’ve got nothing but hate. It has been this way for years. Nothing but bile. So much for a conversation.
Blue Skye out.
nothing but hate.
The truth holds no hate.
Time to head back to the alley refrigerator box Lola.
Trump shows you can’t just label someone a racist or sexist and shut them up. Political speech is the most highly protected of all constitutional rights. Leftist fascists want to shut everyone up, especially on immigration.

http://www.zerohedge.com/news/2015-12-09/lehman-rerun-banks-are-buying-protection-against-their-own-systemic-demise-again
Buckle up.
Morning update from Chicago….
Seems Mayor Rummy, aka Tiny Dancer, has really stepped in it after his aplogy speech yesterday. Just like his pin head mentor in the WH - he went on a soft talk rampage - blaming everyone from the FOP to the residents in the city to neighborhood groups etc. Though he blames himself it is in words only - his actions including a 5 mil check written to the family of Laquon Mac smells of cover up and he knows it. There used to be a phrase called ‘back peddle stein’ when this sort of stuff would crop up. All the while the City of Chicago continues to swirl around the drain financially and administratively. The dirt, the trash, the graffitti, the dog sh*t and piss on the sidewalks, the bums you name it - all are increasing at an increasing rate.
Now the special snowflakes protesting at City Hall are DEMANDING Tiny Ballerina be removed and I understand as I write this there is a movement (bowel or otherwise) in the democrat super majority state house to have one of their own removed from the City of Chicago’s highest post.
Break out the popcorn there HBB’ers - this drama is far from over.
The talkies on the radio on a national level are bringing this whole thing to light - when it gets to that level - who knows what can happen.
Thanks for the report, rj. I think it’s actually positive news. Rahm’s had it comin’ for a long time.
Palmy:
This story is far from over - the dem political insiders are rallying around the Tiny Ballerina, circling the wagons to ensure that they protect their own to keep the gravy train (albeit slower) flowing.
In Chicago like so many other cities and levels of gubmit - they (not us) are only interested in protecting their own in order to maintain power and damn the torpedoes on the rest of us. If Rummy had a middle finger on that one hand he would be flipping it at us in utter defiance.
Power is the end game here. Look at the state house - MadAGAIN has been in the speakership there for more than 10% of the age of our republic all to maintain power. And the end result - alot of dead folk, huge fiscal and debt problems, unfunded (and unable to pay) pension obligations and an on-going balkanization of city nabes where others are not allowed - pass through ok - but to live there - not so much.
And Chicago alone has 28 billion dollars in liability that is not funded to date. State budget process - non existent and now Karen Lewis and her union co-horts at CPS have in the last couple of days voted to go on strike - again by a 92 to 8 percent margin. After all it is for the little special snow flakes that they supposedly teach - right? Mind you too that CPS teachers pay only 2% of their wages into the pension program as an example. Mayor Rummy who is in a weak position right now will cave under the demands of the union that just last year supported his re-election to keep the peace and keep the teachers in the classroom teaching said snowflakes.
I hope y’all on this blog - I don’t care side of aisle or color of stripe - come to understand that this is the problem with prolonged unilateral political rule as we have had in this state for a very long time - it is rotten to the core because the power structure don’t give a crap about the vast majority of ‘us’ out here. They are only concerned about holding power.
It is just impossible to describe how bad living here has become. There are so many intractable problems it becomes near impossible to even know where to start a discussion about where to start to come up with ideas. Overwheling is the word. Drowning may be another.
60+ years of total democrat control has consequences.
They will never give up control.
Not even if the city is in bankruptcy and half the population just leaves. And the rest just burns.
The FSA votes

Yep - that in a short concised comment is it.
Leftists would let the city burn down to the ground as long as they could rule over the ashes.
WOW, I just got a letter from my health insurance. So In october my premiums were going up 500.00 a year and yesterday i got a letter telling me that my premiums are going up 200.00 a month. 600.00 a month!
7000k a year plus 5000k deduct. Pretty Furious! but my money will help pay for sex changes and abortions for others! good to be taxed to death!
Ive never been sick, but is covered california really obamacare in disguise?
Private insurance is a booby trap!
so if u actually use it it will cost 12000 / year or 1000.00 / month? Seems like a real bargain.
7000k a year plus 5000k deduct.
So unless you are hospitalized for something serious, you will never file a claim. These HD plans are becoming the norm, which means that for procedures like outpatient surgery (think gall bladder removal) or a colonoscopy you are effectively uninsured and will have to pay for the whole procedure out of your pocket, while paying insurance premiums that dwarf the healthcare taxes Europeans and Canadians pay.
My employer provided insurance (non HD) costs $18,000 a year.
When the Republican party finishes imploding, maybe we will finally get single payer universal coverage.
Which will be even worse than what we have now. If you listen to the tape recordings of the Obamacare talks from way back, it was their plan from day one to first implement Obamacare, knowing that it was crap - then they can roll out single-payer as the solution and claim victory.
No, it could be much better what most people have now. Medicare, which is probably the most popular institution in American life, could be extended to cover every citizen. Huge amounts of money spent on insurance bureaucracy and paperwork could be saved.
+1 MM. Absolutely. Medicare for all as base coverage. If want premium coverage above that, then buy supplemental insurance on top of it.
“Huge amounts of money spent on insurance bureaucracy and paperwork could be saved.”
And instead, we’ll have lots of money spent on government bureaucracy where the employees don’t care one sh*t about reducing healthcare costs.
Yes, Medicare is very efficient.
When your efficiency measurement is percent of dollars that go to healthcare expenditures as compared to the cost of administration.
Bang up measurement…with that math, you can make anything more efficient by having each employee write bigger checks. Awesome.
Extending Medicare to every American would give us a system very similar to the Canadian system. Canada spends around 40% less per capita.
In Canada, medical decisions are made entirely by physicians.
Before we go universal, let’s start by making that fundamental change for Medicare and see how people like it.
Well looky here. It’s a Free$hitFiesta.
is covered california really obamacare in disguise?
Yup, Covered California is the state’s implementation of the insurance exchange envisioned in Obamacare.
Makes the uninsured fine I have to pay to the IRS for my wife and I seem pretty reasonable.
Forward!
That Obamacare penalty will be bigger than you think
A new report underscores what it calls “a key area of uncertainty”: The extent to which higher Obamacare penalties will prod uninsured people to sign up for coverage.

The stick’s getting a lot bigger — but it’s not clear that many more people will choose the carrot as a result.
Households that opt to go without health insurance in 2016 are set to get hit with an average Obamacare fine of $969.
That is 47 percent higher than the average $661 penalty per uninsured household for this year, a new analysis by the Kaiser Family Foundation revealed Wednesday.
And households without insurance that earn too much to qualify for financial aid to buy Obamacare plans will pay an even larger fine for 2016 — an average of $1,450, versus the average of $1,177 for 2015.
“Households that opt to go without health insurance in 2016 are set to get hit with an average Obamacare fine of $969.”

I know, I wont retire in CA, $500 a mo for worthless insurance is a joke.
my premiums are going up 200.00 a month. 600.00 a month!
I just paid my private monthly health/dental/mental/alternative/hospital $1000 (sort of) deductible insurance today in Rio.
$112 US dollars - for as good or better health-care that I got in the USA.
I’d say that would cost me about $900 a month in the USA.
USA “health” care insurance is a bastardization of capitalism - a joke.
Retirees should be looking at Belize, Quito, Argentina, Prague, Thailand or the nice old Spanish towns in MX. San Miguel de Allende is nicer than 80% of the USA cities. Great weather too.

PBS Newshour ran a story on economic migrants being shut out of Greece. One migrant summed it up pretty well:
————
“Osman Zihra was an airport worker in Morocco. Weary of what he called bad democracy and insecure employment prospects, he joined the migrant trail. But the thousands he spent to get here so far count for nothing.
OSMAN ZIHRA, Moroccan economic migrant: Europe needs much more people to work for them, because European people aren’t going to work like us. We can work Saturday. We can work Sunday. We can go after hours of work. We can work more hours. But they — and we can be cheap for — you understand me?”

Hillary Clinton’s most repugnant lie
By Post Editorial Board
December 9, 2015 | 8:53pm
Liar, liar, pantsuit on fire: Hillary Clinton still insists she didn’t tell the grieving families of the Benghazi victims that an anti-Islam video was to blame.
Yet family members say she said just that, three days after the attack, at the Sept. 14, 2012, ceremony at Andrews Air Force Base.
George Stephanopoulos asked her Sunday if she’d told the victims it was about the film. Clinton gave a flat “no.”
She added: “I said very clearly there had been a terrorist group, uh, that had taken responsibility on Facebook, um . . .”
At least four family members disagree.
Tyrone Woods’ father said he hugged Clinton and shook her hand. Then “she said we are going to have the filmmaker arrested who was responsible for the death of my son . . . She said ‘the filmmaker who was responsible for the death of your son.’ ”
Sean Smith’s mother said Hillary is “absolutely lying . . . She said it was because of the video.” Smith’s uncle backs her up.
Glen Doherty’s sister agreed: “When I think back now to that day and what she knew, it shows me a lot about her character that she would choose in that moment to basically perpetuate what she knew was untrue.”
“What she knew” refers to Clinton’s words to daughter Chelsea the night of the assault and the next day to Egypt’s prime minister, which made it plain the secretary of state knew full well that a terror group had long planned the attack.
The lie’s even in her words at the Sept. 14 ceremony: “We’ve seen rage and violence directed at American embassies over an awful Internet video that we had nothing to do with.”
Just why the administration united around this lie is another editorial. The disgrace here is Clinton’s refusal to admit her role — even pushing the fib to “comfort” the bereaved.
Stiff as the competition is, this has to count as her lowest-down, dirtiest lie of all.
nypost.com/2015/12/09/hillary-clintons-most-repugnant-lie/ - 222k -
It sounds like nonsense. Does this New York Post guy know whether those people who attacked the consulate were motivated by that movie? And if Hillary Clinton did lie about their motivation, that’s not a good thing. But is it really such a big deal. A bunch of maniacal murderers kill four Americans. Who really cares that much about why they did it?
C’mon MM, I know you’re smarter than that.
Consider the context and timing of the Benghazi attack;
1. One of the major risks facing our country is terrorism.
2. The President is tasked with protecting US interests (you know, that whole Commander in Chief thingy).
3. Terror attacks look bad if you are judging the President on his ability to protect the US.
The attack in Benghazi occurred in September of a presidential election year.
I think it’s a pretty big deal if the Secretary of State is lying about whether it was a terrorist attack or not. If she didn’t know, that’s one thing (she shouldn’t be making sh*t up–the left crucifies the right for spewing bullsh*t), but if she is making up false narratives in order to make the President look less bad, and thus give the Democrats a better shot at keeping the White House, that’s unethical.
It seems pretty unlikely that the family members are lying about their interactions with Hillary.
So,
If the “why” doesn’t matter, then why did she lie?
If she didn’t lie because she truly thought that it was the video that incited the violence, then she’s incompetent.
Take your pick. Is Hillary a liar? Or incompetent?
Take your pick. Is Hillary a liar? Or incompetent?
How about both?
Bernie 2016!!
yet she is still more successful than anyone in your expanded familial for centuries. she lives in your head rent free.
So, what you are saying is that the ends justifies the means?
If that’s your measure, then Trump > Clinton.
“Take your pick. Is Hillary a liar? Or incompetent?”

More Than 600 Benghazi Security Requests Never Reached Clinton’s Desk, But Reports on Libya from Her ‘Friend’ Did
By Melanie Hunter | October 22, 2015 | 1:12 PM EDT
(CNSNews.com) – Former Secretary of State Hillary Clinton acknowledged to the House Select Committee on Benghazi on Thursday that of the more than 600 security requests related to Libya and Benghazi that came in in 2012 before the Sept. 11, 2012 terrorist attack none ever reached her desk.
However, Blumenthal’s 150 emails reached her desk, Rep. Mike Pompeo (R-Kan.) said.
PLibya. Do you know how many there were?”
CLINTON: “No.”
POMPEO: “Ma’am, there were just over 100 plus. In the 2nd quarter, do you know how many there were?”
CLINTON: “No, I do not.”
POMPEO: “Ma’am there were 172ish – might have been 171 or 173. … How many were there in July and August and then in that week and few days before the attacks? Do you know?”
CLINTON: “There were a number of them. I know that.”
POMPEO: “Yes, ma’am – 83 by our count. That’s over 600 requests. You’ve testified this morning that you’ve had none of those reach your desk. Is that correct also?”
CLINTON: “That’s correct.”

Maybe he read this in October.
Hillary Clinton’s Email to Chelsea Stars in Benghazi Hearing
Republicans released a new email at the Benghazi hearing written by former Secretary of State Hillary Clinton to her daughter Chelsea Clinton late on the night of the attacks in Benghazi.

Republicans released a new email at the Benghazi hearing written by former Secretary of State Hillary Clinton to her daughter Chelsea Clinton late on the night of the attacks in Benghazi.
In the email, Mrs. Clinton tells her daughter — who used the email pseudonym “Diane Reynolds” — that the attacks were undertaken by an “Al Queda-like group.”
Republicans seized on the mother-daughter exchange as proof that Mrs. Clinton misled the American people, failing to make clear that the attacks were actually a premeditated act of terrorism.

You see, that doesn’t answer the question. They could have been an “Al Queda-like group” who were angered by a movie.
They could, except Clinton told the Egyptian prime minister within a day of the attack:
“We know the attack in Libya had nothing to do with the film. It was a planned attack, not a protest.”
Mighty
That was a valiant effort trying to defend that lying dried up corrupt old hag.
Everybody KNOWS Hillary is the Lizard Queen. NOBODY cares about Benghazi except the assembled investigator freaks milking the taxpayer.
“milking the taxpayer.”
Using money that could be used to pay for 1/4 of one of Moochelle Obama’s many $20 million vacations.

I know mucho Mexicans and Central Americans.
They can’t stand muslims either.
Even El Chapo has declared war on ISIS now (apparently they intercepted one of his shipments, somewhere in the world).
Now that’s threat I would take seriously!
I’m hard-pressed to come up with two groups I’d like more to be fighting each other (MTV celebrity death match, heh heh).
Carlos Slim - the richest man in Mexico - is of Syrian ancestry. So is Selma Hayek.
Honestly…. what comedy would there be on the HBB without enraged debt donkeys, empty pockets, broke speculators all loaded up on depreciating assets demanding free $hit, guarantees and back stops?
welcome to the new economy my friend. Get in the casino! Once your in dreams can come true.
Forget about climate change for a second, as the lack of potable drinking and irrigation water is a far greater and immediate threat to humanity:

Oh, but they are doing something in Lost Wages - they are installing a “drain” (now the third water intake, the third) in Lake Mead so they can suck it lower:

Drill baby drill!
The globe is awash in water.
Water rights, the origin of government.
Forget about climate change for a second, as the lack of potable drinking and irrigation water
Climate change and lack of water are closely related to each other. In a warming world, snow levels go higher, providing less water to western reservoirs.
The day of reckoning arrives. This was predicted to happen decades ago, and in a display of “exceptionalism” heads were buried in the sand. Unsustainable metropolises popped up in the desert while reservoirs and and aquifers are sucked dry.
I wonder if we’ll see a reverse migration back to the well hydrated rust belt? Who knows? Detroit could become desirable again.

“DUBAI, Dec 10 (Reuters) - A Dubai real estate firm building a $6 billion golf complex with Donald Trump on Thursday stripped the property of his name and image amid a backlash over the U.S. presidential candidate’s proposal to ban all Muslims from entering the United States.
Trump triggered an international uproar when he made his comments in response to last week’s deadly shootings in California by two Muslims who authorities said were radicalised.
DAMAC Properties had initially said it would stand by Trump, even as another of the billionaire’s Middle East partners, the Lifestyle chain of department stores, halted sales of his “Trump Home” line on Wednesday in protest at his comments.”
I am sure the Donald got his money up front before the muslims could use his name to bring in future FB.
Would YOU buy one? When you leave a Trump home, you’re never sure it’s going to let you back in.
I have a few rules in life.
One is never invest in anything with the Trump name on it.
Not even a vote?
One is never invest in anything with the Trump name on it.
I wish everyone did that, did not just say it.
being in cash the past 7 years was a huge mistake.
You should have bought in in 2009. Why didn’t you?
Yep. Jumping in now would compound it.
Compounded losses are a tragic thing.
Being mostly in stocks was a great thing for me. But I am a market cycles guy. Stocks and RE will be clobbered in time again. A rerun of 2008. Never be completely out of stocks. I cannot say the same for real estate. You have to time real estate. Further, RE is not an investment.

4 reasons crude-oil prices are in a nasty death spiral—again
By Myra P. Saefong

Crude-oil prices have lost more than half their value since their peak in June 2014
As actor Daniel Day-Lewis can attest, oil can be a messy affair. There will be blood in the oil market.
Crude-oil futures have been facing severe headwinds since last year, when prices for the U.S. and global benchmarks shed more than half their value from the highs seen in June 2014. Now, crude oil faces another stunning unraveling.
The commodity has already lost a third of its value in 2015, staging what seems like a relentless drop toward multiyear lows.
On Thursday, West Texas Intermediate crude (CLF6, -1.61%) settled at $36.76 a barrel and Brent crude (LCOF6, -1.40%) finished at $39.73 a barrel, with both marking their fifth day of losses in a row. Prices for both grades settled at their lowest levels since February 2009.
But contrary to popular belief, the Organization of the Petroleum Exporting Countries isn’t the only reason for oil’s most recent downturn.
“The likelihood of rising OPEC production going forward” is certainly a concern, said Matthew Smith, a commodity analyst at ClipperData.
But strength in the U.S. dollar, resilient U.S. production and a continuing global supply glut are also among the key reasons why oil prices continue to fall, he said.
Here’s a detailed look at the key reasons behind crude-oil prices’ recent descent:
…
what happened to peak oil when we were at 150/ barrel? lmao
It’s very hard to find the Peak Oil peops these days…

Another tell on the oil price down the road.
I remember well the bottom falling out of the price of oil back in the mid 80’s and it was just ugly then. Wonder what this portends.
Enjoy your eveing.
http://www.washingtonsblog.com/2015/12/strippers-suffering-low-oil-prices.html
All this harks to the old canard ” Nobody could of seen this coming”. Wondering where the right price is for oil. Seven years ago, $150 seemed the edge. People ate the $4+ per a gallon price of gas. Now, I imagine gasoline can bounce between $2 and $3 and most people are numb to it. This is the new plateau. If I see $1.50 gasoline here again in New England, it will be a shocker.
Well buckle up because it’s not far off. $2.09 in CT, $1.80’s in NJ, $1.90’s in DE.
Thanks for the post. I can’t overstate my disappointment in realizing that the “strippers” in the article are not the sort who pole dance.
My grandmother lived out in the countryside in Southern Illinois, and as kids my sisters and I were always fascinated to see the stripper rigs in operation along the road to her house.
Given the relatively high production costs and small shares of production for each of these wells, they seem to offer a sort of safety valve for adjusting U.S. production on the margin.
The stamp of AlbqDan type thinking seems present in the article, as there is no reason to expect marginal reduction in stripper production to drive prices back up. The predicted result of a collapse in demand is for supply to drop on the margin until production at marginal cost above marginal revenue dries up, leaving only profitable producers in operation, and price stuck in the basement for an indefinite period.
Last time oil prices similarly declined, it was well over a decade until recovery. Given the massive inventory glut plus a current political juggernaut to end fossil fuel use, it could be many, many decades before oil prices recover.
