Now THAT is a photo of a used war salesman:

http://www.bloomberg.com/politics/articles/2016-02-16/george-w-bush-tries-to-give-jeb-what-100-million-couldn-t

What a hoot!

“As Bush’s campaign has been eclipsed by the rise of outsiders like Donald Trump and Ted Cruz, the family’s financiers have headed for the doorsteps in Iowa, New Hampshire, and South Carolina, asking for one vote at a time.”

“Becker walked New Hampshire streets with members of the Bush extended family, senior staff from George H.W. Bush’s White House, and Craig Stapleton, George W. Bush’s ambassador to France. “People were so shocked we were on their front porch in the snow, I think we got the pity vote,” she said.”

“Immergut, who was active in the Republican presidential campaign for Romney and Rudy Giuliani, said he’s never seen donors and top staff engaging in they type of campaign work usually reserved for college-aged supporters and other entry-level volunteers. “I’ve never done this before,” he said.”

Two words: PUH thetic.

The Cruz outs and Rubiots are beside themselves that Trump is doing so well. Most recent SC poll has him far ahead with those two tied fighting for 2nd.

I am completely stunned at the desperation of the Bush campaign and its supporters. It’s beyond humiliation and delusion, there’s something completely masochistic about it. What a train wreck.

You’d think JEB! would have seen the writing on the wall long ago and withdrawn gracefully “for the good of the party and the American people” or “to spend more time with his family” or some such thing, allowing him to salvage maybe a little bit of pride, not just for himself, but his supporters.

OTOH, they’ve got a lot invested, though, not just money, but the whole Romney placeholder gambit. Wherever Mitty is, my guess is that he’s laughing himself silly. No wonder he hasn’t given Trump a good lambasting (if he has, I haven’t heard about it).

And there you have it. That’s the “Establishment”.

JEB! has suffered considerable bullying at the hands of his older brother over the years. Trust me, GWB does NOT want to see him in the White House. It’s a brother thing, not a political thing. When JEB! was governor of Florida and wanted his guy Bill McCollum to get the Senate seat, Shrub backed Mel Martinez and Karl Rove’s people put out a hit on McCollum, sending out literature that implied McCollum was a homosexual, among other things. JEB! was quite pissed about it and protested, in vain. Real ugly stuff. You’d think Shrub would have wanted to reward his brother for what he did for Shrub in Florida and let him have just a little something, but no.

Trump supporters like his bluster about kicking butt and taking names, but — outside of the few racists — I think most of the supporters know that it’s just that: bluster. Trump’s a realtor, not a bloodthirsty Cheney disciple with delusions about bringing on the Rapture or “securing the realm.” The supporters know that Trump would likely stop short of doing anything truly violent.

However, I know at least half a dozen women engineers here in Silicon Valley that are around the age of 50 and have no interest in marriage. These are all attractive, financially secure women at the top of their professions.

They basically don’t want to give up the freedom they have now for what they perceive as the constraints of marriage.

There are no greater losses than a rapidly depreciating house at a grossly inflated price.

Paying multiples of construction cost($55/sq ft for lot labor, materials and profit) for a 10+ year old house and then financing which doubles the total cost is a horrific mistake you’ll never recover from.

Got it. So in other words, she isn’t really your wife. FWIW, you can divorce someone in a different jurisdiction as long as the marriage was considered valid. For instance, my parents were married in the USA, but were divorced in Mexico. That’s because Mexico recognizes American marriages as valid, as opposed to those officiated by Captain Blue Skye on the SS Minnow.

After raising all the children I could possibly want to, it is better for me to take things day by day.

BTW, the boat is the Blue Skye, not the Minnow.

Actually guyz, this is a pretty good article. Yes, it’s true that in the past, it was always the women chasing the man with the fortune. But since women may now earn or inherit just as well as men, this will soon be happening to all of us, regardless of gender:

—————-
Be you feminist or fervent bachelor, gay, straight, male, cis or genderfluid; for the average person, marrying into property will be your best shot at “owning it” these days. And if you can charm your name on to the mortgage deeds, well, even better. The housing crisis will make sharp-elbowed, radar-eyed Chelsea husband-hunters of all of us.

In another five years, I predict that Tinder will be outmoded by a simple database of single millennials who were lucky enough to inherit – or afford – a three-bedroom house with space for a homeworking office and a nursery. Or an app which lists unwedded people with sickly parents about to cark it who, in the meantime, happen to be sitting selfishly on a five-bedroom pile in Surrey. In the future, these property owners – not the slinky, the booby or the muscular – will be the sex gods of society.

In some circles, this is true already. I’m still rather confident that I could find a husband in a week … if I wasn’t too particular about citizenship or mother tongue. I need only offer up my bedroom (and income) to the mate and the other bedrooms to the mate’s extended family.

But since women may now earn or inherit just as well as men, this will soon be happening to all of us, regardless of gender:

I read somewhere that 90%+ of all alimony awards are being awarded to women. But yeah, some well heeled ladies might find an alpha gigolo trying to attach themselves, like a lamprey, to her pocket book. But that is nothing new.

According to the article above, only 1.3 million people in Venezuela receive “welfare”, out of a population of 30 million. I don’t think we’ve had a participation rate that low since the Eisenhower administration (if that). So, FWIW, it isn’t the FSA that is causing “socialist Venezuela” to collapse. I would chalk that up to good old Latin American graft and corruption.

We are far more socialist that they are. And the Europeans even more so.

Does A Falling Baltic Dry Index Mean The Sky Is Falling Too?
in Dry Bulk Market,International Shipping News 16/02/2016

This week we tweeted that the Baltic Dry Index, traditionally a leading indicator of world economic growth, hit an all-time low, dipping under 290 points. The index has been falling steadily since August 2015, when it peaked at just over 1200. The sharp drop is the result of several factors, including increased freighter construction in China and falling commodity prices, particularly oil.

The BDI has historically been linked to overall global economic health because it tracks the price of shipping raw materials like coal, iron, or grain via cargo ship and is therefore closely association with the global demand for raw materials. Analysts believe that higher demand for raw goods directly correlates with higher demand for shipping capacity, driving up shipping costs as a result.

But while the index has continued to freefall, some are questioning whether the index is still a reliable indicator of economic growth. Because the index tracks the price of shipping, not volume, it may not be an accurate reflection of how much shipping is actually taking place. As one astute LinkedIn commenter pointed out, the global shipping industry has continued to build bigger and bigger ships for the last few years while the price of oil to power those ships has dropped. And while the ships themselves have grown, the global marketplace to generate proportionate increases in volumes of goods requiring shipping has not.

It’s true that the Baltic Dry Index has fallen by 75% in six months and is now lower than ever before, but perhaps that is not deserving of panic.

We saw the BDI fall sharply during the global economic recession in 2008, but current conditions don’t reflect the same dire outlook. The BDI is simply a price index that reflects the balance of supply and demand, and right now supply is far ahead of demand. Stronger global economic growth, a surge in trade in response to lower shipping rates and rising commodity prices will all potentially be factors in boosting demand. On the supply side, low transport prices may force many shippers to scrap their older vessels, which will help to alleviate some of the glut. It may take some time for supply and demand factors to get back in sync, but the current low levels of the Baltic Dry Index do not signal that the sky is falling.

There is one very positive thing this article says about Barney Sanders…

“He finally wormed his way into the Senate in 2006, where he still ranks as one of the poorest members of Congress.”

And possibly…

“He drove around in a rusted-out, Bondo-covered VW bug with no working windshield wipers.”

Bernie Sanders a Bum Who Didn’t Earn His First Steady Paycheck Until Age 40 Then Wormed His Way Into Politics

Jim Hoft | Gateway Pundit - February 16, 2016

Bernie Sanders was a bum who didn’t earn a steady paycheck until he was 40 years old. He was a slob who lived in a shack with a dirt floor. He later wrote about masturbation and rape for left-wing rags for $50 a story. The Socialist then wormed his way into politics.

Bernie had his electricity cut off a lot so he’d run an extension cord down to the basement. He couldn’t pay his bills.

And today he’s running for president so he can take your money and redistribute it.

Investor’s Business Daily reported:

Sanders spent most of his life as an angry radical and agitator who never accomplished much of anything. And yet now he thinks he deserves the power to run your life and your finances — “We will raise taxes;” he confirmed Monday, “yes, we will.”

One of his first jobs was registering people for food stamps, and it was all downhill from there.

Sanders took his first bride to live in a maple sugar shack with a dirt floor, and she soon left him. Penniless, he went on unemployment. Then he had a child out of wedlock. Desperate, he tried carpentry but could barely sink a nail. “He was a shi**y carpenter,” a friend told Politico Magazine. “His carpentry was not going to support him, and didn’t.”

Then he tried his hand freelancing for leftist rags, writing about “masturbation and rape” and other crudities for $50 a story. He drove around in a rusted-out, Bondo-covered VW bug with no working windshield wipers. Friends said he was “always poor” and his “electricity was turned off a lot.” They described him as a slob who kept a messy apartment — and this is what his friends had to say about him.

The only thing he was good at was talking … non-stop … about socialism and how the rich were ripping everybody off. “The whole quality of life in America is based on greed,” the bitter layabout said. “I believe in the redistribution of wealth in this nation.”

So he tried politics, starting his own socialist party. Four times he ran for Vermont public office, and four times he lost — badly. He never attracted more than single-digit support — even in the People’s Republic of Vermont. In his 1971 bid for U.S. Senate, the local press said the 30-year-old “Sanders describes himself as a carpenter who has worked with ‘disturbed children.’ ” In other words, a real winner.

He finally wormed his way into the Senate in 2006, where he still ranks as one of the poorest members of Congress. Save for a municipal pension, Sanders lists no assets in his name. All the assets provided in his financial disclosure form are his second wife’s. He does, however, have as much as $65,000 in credit-card debt.

He needs to get out there and do some 300,000 dollar an hour goldman sach’s lecture, or pedal some influence and get a nice job for a family member. He could try his hand at illegal insider trading well it’s legal if you are a member of congress.

The article forgot to mention a few other things
As an independent (ie he had to organize and get on the ballet without a party to help him), he was elected mayor of Burlington, Vermont’s most populous city, in 1981, and was reelected three times (ie he was popular). In 1990, he was elected to represent Vermont’s at-large congressional district in the U.S. House of Representatives. In 1991, Sanders co-founded the Congressional Progressive Caucus. He served as a congressman for 16 years before being elected to the U.S. Senate in 2006. In 2012, he was reelected with 71% of the popular vote. The guy has one again and again on a shoe string budget, but hey your article tells the whole story.

Seriously a guy who isn’t focused on his own wealth and you guys bash him. We all agree that Wall street and the elite have stripped the wealth of middle class using a gov and FED as a tool, but when someone comes along and says hey maybe these thieves and corporate welfare babies should pay something back it’s bashing time. As far as I can tell most on these boards work for a living, his policies will help those that work, but you’d all rather rave on about the emperor’s new clothes and how Donald Trump or some other trickle down economics deceiver will save the day.

(and btw, the house rental market on the east side of seattle is freaking crazy. One house we looked at this weekend had four applications on the same day, effectively a ‘bidding war’ on the rent, and the realtor showing the house was suggesting cover letters for the application. Ugh)

How did things go as far as showings, potential lockbox on door, open house ??

You have a legal right to quiet enjoyment of the house…I don’t think you must allow a lock box…Shown by appointment only with 24 hour notice would be appropriate…Don’t think you must allow a open house either…Read your lease carefully…

Your read/thoughts are the same as mine.

Lease only parrots the state’s tenant laws, which is 24 hours to notice to show to potential tenant or buyer. No specifics on the details, of course (in lease or tenant laws)!

Landlord, as expected, wants open house and lockbox, and seems unconcerned about interrupting our lives, or our right to quiet enjoyment. Going to be a fun experience, I can tell!

A lockbox is for empty houses. No way on the house you are living in.

I have plenty.

First, your landlord will become inexplicably hostile and cold, no matter how pleasant your relationship was up until then.

Showings are a nightmare. The agent handling the sale promises about restrictions you place on times, days will do nothing when they are ignored by buyers’ agents. Hide your valuables; gang bangers will soon be walking through your house. Maybe they’ll come back later when you’re not home. You will have people peeping in your windows after dark, because “we weren’t sure anyone was living here”. If you refuse to leave during the showings (as we did), you’ll be expected to answer questions to help sell the place. Say something negative, as I did constantly, and the agent(s) can get quite nasty.

No lockbox ever, for the reasons above. Open houses just make it harder to track who’s going through your stuff in another room.

If you choose the passive aggressive route, as I did, you may just get a year’s free rent, as I did.

I did what I did in response to the LL’s lack of respect for us as people and his ever increasing hostility and disdain for us as renters. In the beginning, I felt sorry for him and was very cooperative.

P.S. Ask for a substantial reduction of your rent and the immediate return of your deposit (while they still have the money if they’re going for a short sale.)

drumminj,

That post above was regarding our second rental here (Vegas).

Third one, we refused to show it because of our last experience, and considered buying. Decided not to. Landlord went crazy, pleasant until then. Very, very, very unpleasant until we got out, which we did in record time, keeping our promises to him. Didn’t matter.

Fourth one (now): so far has ignored repair request made six months ago (bird flew into picture window and cracked it first week we were here.) Estimates for the place are dropping precipitously, $12K last month, now dipping below what she paid (too much.) May not make it to the end of the lease (June 30, 2017) before she wants to get rid of it.

Thanks for sharing your experience. Seems to match my expectation and other stories I’ve read online.

We definitely don’t want random folks walking through the house, and will do what we can to ensure only folks escorted by agent are in the house, and we’re at the house at the same time.

Not looking forward to the drama, but not much we can do. Will be very clear about what we’re okay/not okay with, won’t be helping sell the house in any way (unless we reach a mutual agreement to do so, but don’t expect one to be offered).

Hoping we can find a new place and get current LL to agree to terminate lease early, then they can clean it up and show it to their hearts’ content.

Get on him right away about the rent, no reduction, no show.

I got my rent knocked down to $1200 from $1600 - then $1000 - then $0. After that I didn’t hear from him. A year later an agent showed up at the door on the LL’s behalf, which I made him prove. We agreed on a new month to month lease. He wanted $1200; I told him $1000 or we’re out of here. He agreed, but by that time we really wanted to move so two months later we were out of there.

I’m not sure all of this has been worth it. Maybe in some other place, but not Las Vegas.

Well, we can’t stop them from showing the house — that’s guaranteed by law with 24hrs notice. However, we don’t have to be helpful, place doesn’t need to be showable, I don’t have to be wearing clothes, etc…

Of course if they want us to be agreeable/helpful in any way, then I certainly agree this will be the first order of business…

I read online of LL’s who would give a discount/bonus to tenant for each showing, or simply refund the last month’s rent. Totally the way to do it, IMO, but clearly my LL isn’t thinking that way right now.

Ha :-) I knew someone who used to deal with Jehovah Witnesses that way when they’d come knocking. He’d generally be holding a bottle of booze in his hand, for flair.

Well, that’s true about the 24 hour thing but I found they expect you to adhere to the letter of the law, but as far as them doing it, that’s another story…

It’s not easy.

There is an easier way to get rid of them. Just ask them if they will pray with you. AFAIK they are not allowed to pray with “heathens” and they will beat a hasty retreat, especially if you just go straight into the Lord’s Prayer.

You can also just tell them to get lost and slam the door in their faces. I’ve found that works quite well and they don’t come back. I also once had an LDS kid with an attitude come knocking. I told him to leave and he refused. I then threatened to kick his puny ass. His partner (who looked very alarmed) convinced him to leave. That was over 10 years ago and the LDS have not darkened my door since that day.

Supreme shock: Has US court holed Paris climate deal?

Matt McGrath
Environment correspondent
10 February 2016

Have five elderly, conservative Americans stalled what President Obama called the “best chance we have to save the one planet we’ve got”?

The Supreme Court’s decision to issue a stay to a coalition of Republican states, coal industry and mining groups came as a massive shock to all sides.

“It is such a nakedly partisan, unprecedented type of action,” said Paul Bledsoe, a White House climate adviser under President Clinton.

“It is redolent of this hyper-partisanship that the US is suffering from, and the fact that it has seeped into the most objective branch of government is just remarkable.”

Despite the assertion by the White House that this was merely a legal “bump in the road”, no one really knows quite how things will now play out.

Those opposed to the Plan argued that it represented a massive overextension of the President’s executive authority at the expense of State’s rights.

The Supreme Court indicated that they wanted this issue to be resolved legally before the other elements of the Plan could be put into practice.

This is bad news for the Plan on two counts.

It is due to start in 2022, but states were supposed to submit their carbon cutting plans by this September.

That deadline will now be missed as this legal issue is not likely to be resolved before the end of next year.

The second and more important point from Mr Obama’s perspective is that by granting the stay, the Supreme Court is hinting strongly it has issues with the whole Plan.

“The stay is a signal that the Supreme Court has serious concerns with the power plan,” said Mike Duncan, president of American’s for Clean Coal Electricity.

“We’re optimistic the power plan will ultimately be rejected.”

If that happens it could be bad news for the Paris process.

“It casts an enormous shadow on the commitment’s the US made in Paris,” said Bruce Huber, a law professor at the University of Notre Dame.

Justice Scalia Dies At Ranch Resort Owned By Democrat Party Donor & Obama Award Winner

Posted on February 14, 2016 by DCWhispers

The photo below is Barack Obama shaking hands with a man by the name of John Poindexter, a Texas millionaire businessman also noted for being a donor to the Democrat Party and who also received an award from Barack Obama related to his military service in Vietnam.

Poindexter is the owner of the very Cibolo Creek Ranch Supreme Court Justice Antonin Scalia was found dead at earlier this week.

President Barack Obama honored Poindexter and his Vietnam War unit with the Presidential Unit Citation, the nation’s highest award for unit valor, in a ceremony last October.

It has been long-standing policy for the Obama administration to grant presidential awards to those who are among the president’s most prized political donors.

It was Poindexter who reportedly was among those who initially discovered the Justice’s body, and who then coordinated with local officials to have Justice Scalia declared dead via a phone conversation with the area medical examiner – but without an actual medical examination of the body.

Mr. Poindexter was also said to be the primary point man between the ranch location and federal authorities who were notably slow to arrive on scene.

To date, there is said to have been no request for an autopsy even though ini

The Odd Death of Antonin Scalia
Scott Creighton
February 15, 2016

UPDATE: I wonder what Justice Scalia, a strict constitutionalist, thought about the TPP, the TTIP and their Investor-State Dispute Settlement provisions? Because not only do these provisions undermine US law as it stands, but they also supersede the constitution and even rulings of the Supreme Court.
scalia

Justice Antonin Scalia appeared to lack adequate security at the time of his death, Image Source: Wikipedia

Obama and the leaders of 11 other nations signed the TPP earlier this month. Obama was granted Fast Track authority, but the corporate bill of rights passing as a “trade deal” will still have to be approved by the senate in an up or down vote. It will pass and Obama will sign it leaving just one obstacle: it will certainly be challenged in the Supreme Court on the grounds that it is not constitutional.

Scalia was apparently brought out to the ranch owned by a vulture capitalist to meet with 35 substantial business people shortly after Obama signed the TPP and Obama’s offering to take Scalia’s place is a pro-business neoliberal shill?

Interesting timing, right?

Justice Scalia was found lying with hands folded on top of the sheets. It was first reported that he was found by a housekeeper, then the story changed and he was found by the owner of the ranch and “a friend”. By the time they called anyone about the death, Scalia was already cold and they failed to inform any of the authorities of the identity of the deceased. Justices are provided security by the US Marshal Service which didn’t appear to be on the scene at the time of Scalia’s passing. The cause of death was determined to have been by “natural causes” by local officials “over the phone” based on “credible information” provided by that same ranch owner and “a friend”. At first officials said he died of a heart attack but now that official says she “misspoke”. The hearse carrying Scalia away was a “decoy” and the family has opted out of an autopsy.

Scalia was brought there to meet with 35 “substantial business people” and Obama has offered up a “business friendly” judge as a possible replacement for him on the court. A business friendly judge who defended Enron, Rio Tinto and Exxon mobile back in his days of practicing law. He’s a favorite of both sides of the One True Party, the Business Party of America.

US Marshals arresting people for not paying their federal student loans

By: Isiah Carey
Posted:Feb 15 2016 07:02PM CST

HOUSTON (FOX 26) - Believe it or not, the US Marshals Service in Houston is arresting people for not paying their outstanding federal student loans.

Paul Aker says he was arrested at his home last week for a $1500 federal student loan he received in 1987.

He says seven deputy US Marshals showed up at his home with guns and took him to federal court where he had to sign a payment plan for the 29-year-old school loan.

Congressman Gene Green says the federal government is now using private debt collectors to go after those who owe student loans.

Green says as a result, those attorneys and debt collectors are getting judgements in federal court and asking judges to use the US Marshals Service to arrest those who have failed to pay their federal student loans.

Our reliable source with the US Marshal in Houston say Aker isn’t the first and won’t be the last.

They have to serve anywhere from 1200 to 1500 warrants to people who have failed to pay their federal student loans.

A Politically Incorrect Guide To ‘Sexual Identity’
By J. Matt Barber | December 30, 2012 | 5:39 PM EST

“It’s a mixed up, muddled up, shook up world.” - The Kinks

Through the secular-”progressive” looking-glass, the term “sexual orientation” has, in a few short years, evolved to accommodate an ever-expanding fruit basket of carnal appetites.

First it was “LGB” - liberal shorthand for “lesbian, gay and bisexual.” Then they added a “T” for “transgender.” That’s cross-dressing. You know, fellas like 45-year-old Clay Francis (aka, “Colleen”).

Mr. Francis enjoys macramé, long walks on the beach, wearing lady knickers and showering fully nude with 6-year-old girls.

Because it’s illegal to “discriminate based on the basis of gender identity,” and since it’s the only “tolerant” thing to do, this brave bellwether of the persecuted LGBT victim-class has secured the “civil right” for him and other men to fully expose themselves to your daughter in the locker room at Olympia, Washington’s Evergreen State College.

But slow down, Dad. According to the law, if you have a problem with Mr. Francis baring all to your baby girl, then you’re the problem. You’re a “transphobe” (”homophobia’s” evil twin sister, er, brother … whatever). Deck this sicko for terrifying your first-grader and you’re off to jail while “Colleen” is off to the “Human Rights Campaign” for a commendation as the latest victim of an “anti-LGBT hate crime.”

Rosa Parks in drag, I guess.

But to make sure they didn’t miss anyone, pooh-bahs over at Child Corruption Central added a “Q” to the “sexual orientation” mix. In case some fifth-grader in Ms. Adamsapple’s health class gets the urge to “taste the rainbow” (and I don’t mean Skittles), the catch-all term “questioning” was tacked on.

Gotta meet those recruiting quotas.

According to the “gay” activist group GLSEN, sexuality is “fluid” and “may change over time.” Unless, of course, you’re already “gay,” and then change is impossible, fixed and immutable. Like that hotel in California, “You can check out any time you like, but you can never leave.”

Nobody said it’s supposed to make sense.

Still, because “progressives” aren’t progressive unless they’re progressing toward progress, this nonsensical alphabet soup of sexual deviancy has ballooned to a marvelous “LGBTQQIAAP.”

No kidding.

House prices ‘to fall 30%’
by SEAN POULTER, Daily Mail

House prices could fall by as much as 30 per cent over the next four years, it is predicted today.

That could wipe out all the increases brought by the buying boom since April last year.

The thousands of buyers currently risking 100 per cent mortgages and borrowing up to five times their salary could be plunged deep into negative equity.

The warning has extra force because it comes from a respected expert in the field rather than yet another monthly report from a mortgage lender.

Roger Bootle, managing director of Capital Economics, was formerly chief economist at HSBC and one of the Bank of England’s ‘wise men’ who advised Chancellors under the last Tory government.

He said: ‘The message is clear. Houses are now so over-valued that a prolonged period of falling prices is on the cards.’
