What President Trump will be able to do:

1. Blame obama for every problem and issue for the next 7.5 years

2. Ignore laws he doesn’t like

3. Make up laws he wishes he had

4. Arrest not one banker

5. Get really good at killing people

6. Bitterly divide us for political power

7. Add more to the deficit in four years than all the other administrations combined and accounting for inflation

8. By-pass the Senate with Czar Appointments

9. Bomb and make war without end without any congressional approval

10. Use of the IRS to go after political enemies.

And democrats will not be able to utter a peep.

I wonder what a President Trump could achieve with:

1. A filibuster proof senate

2. A super majority in the house

3. A Supreme Court that will not overturn one plainly unconstitutional law and, in fact, will “fix them”

4. A fawning and lapdog press

There’s been a lot of anger seething among the yahoos for decades. It usually flares up when a Democrat is in White House. JFK and LBJ helped the John Birch Society to grow. In Bill Clinton’s day it was the militia movement, Timothy McVeigh, and the best couple of years in Rush Limbaugh’s career. Obama, of course, led to the Tea Party.

Here’s are couple remarks made Raymond on 2/27 about Hillary Clinton and her supporters.

1) A greedy, venal oligarch like HIllary

2) The Free Sh*t Army propels Hillary to victory in South Carolina. The one redeeming virtue of Hillary Clinton in the White House would be chortling about how fast she throws her brain-dead supporters under the bus to further enrich the already super-rich.

This is much stronger language than the word yahoo, yet no one raises any objections. That’s interesting.

Obama Didn’t Create Trump

The GOP’s opposition to Obama did.

By William Saletan

How did the GOP end up in this madness? By twisting itself to thwart and vilify Obama. Cruz paints the president as a traitor “who doesn’t believe in the mission of our military and who undermines them at every step.” Rubio, incensed at Obama’s inclusive language, repeatedly excoriates him for “talking about discrimination against Muslims.” Both senators pledge to shred the Iran agreement on their first day in office—apparently out of spite, since renouncing the agreement would free Iran of its nonproliferation commitments without recovering the money that was relinquished in sanctions relief.

What has Obama done to provoke this psychosis? Douthat says he abused executive authority. But that’s circular: Obama resorted to executive action when Republicans blocked the normal channels of government. The GOP’s sabotage began the moment Obama took office, and it exceeds anything done to previous presidents. I’m hard pressed to come up with an innocent explanation.

She will carry the following states: Massachusetts, Vermont, Illinois, New Mexico, Hawaii, and California. But that’s not enough to win.

A long time reader called me yesterday to tell me he thought the anti-arguing messages were needed. He mentioned he doesn’t read anything in the bits bucket anymore it was such gibberish, “I can’t even see what they are saying.”

I was thinking when I got up this morning about how in 2005 IIRC, a group of 4 or 5 HBBer’s in Phoenix decided to get together and have a meal or something. I didn’t have anything to do with it, it was completely spontaneous and of their own doing. And several similar meet-ups happened the same way later. I always found that amazing. People who got to know each other in a fairly anonymous way, had developed enough of a fellowship here to do that.

Anyway, back to what ever it is you want to do with your life.

Ben,

I have been on travel so the last 3/4 weeks.

Noting your comment and the editorial cartoons above - have things really gotten nasty here?

In LV - things are still bad. Most Real Estate ads on radio/billboards are on short sales. Go off the strip by 2 blocks and you are in some scary neighborhoods.

In NYC - I have never seen so many empty stores on “prime” shopping streets. Many “luxury” apartment towers are very dark at night (does anyone live there?). And nearly every traditional apartment complex has signs that they are leasing/for sale. I can remember when you needed a “friend of a friend” to to get see an available apartment.

Everything was Bush’s fault
All republicans were evil
Obama was going to save us, heal the planet, have other nations love us again, close GITMO, end all wars and be the great unifier.
$250 billion dollars deficits were so scandalous that even democrats were against them
Laws were generally followed by the administration
The IRS did not target political enemies of the administration
If a thug just robbed a store, tried to steal a policeman’s gun and was then was shot, the president wouldn’t try to politicize it
Illegal immigrants who committed crimes were deported
Etc.

Yeah - things were sure simpler back then.

In 1927, Donald Trump’s father was arrested after a Klan riot in Queens
By Philip Bump February 29 at 2:06 PM
Washington Post

In Queens, 1,000 white-robed Klansmen marched through the Jamaica neighborhood, eventually spurring an all-out brawl in which seven men were arrested.

One of those arrested was Fred Trump of 175-24 Devonshire Rd. in Jamaica.

This is Donald Trump’s father. Trump had a brother named Fred, but he wasn’t born until more than a decade later. The Fred Trump at Devonshire Road was the Fred C. Trump who lived there with his mother, according to the 1930 Census.

A contemporaneous article from the Daily Star notes that Trump was detained “on a charge of refusing to disperse from a parade when ordered to do so.”

‘Donald Trump’s runaway success in the GOP primaries so far is setting off alarm bells among neoconservatives who are worried he will not pursue the same bellicose foreign policy that has dominated Republican thinking for decades.’

‘Neoconservative historian Robert Kagan — one of the prime intellectual backers of the Iraq War and an advocate for Syrian intervention — announced in the Washington Post last week that if Trump secures the nomination, “the only choice will be to vote for Hillary Clinton.”

‘Max Boot, an unrepentant supporter of the Iraq War, wrote in the Weekly Standard that a “Trump presidency would represent the death knell of America as a great power,” citing, among other things, Trump’s objection to a large American troop presence in South Korea.’

‘Trump has done much to trigger the scorn of neocon pundits. He denounced the Iraq War as a mistake based on Bush administration lies, just prior to scoring a sizable victory in the South Carolina GOP primary. In last week’s contentious GOP presidential debate, he defended the concept of neutrality in the Israeli-Palestinian conflict, which is utterly taboo on the neocon right.’

“It serves no purpose to say you have a good guy and a bad guy,” he said, pledging to take a neutral position in negotiating peace.’

‘This set off his rival Marco Rubio, who replied, “The position you’ve taken is an anti-Israel position. … Because you cannot be an honest broker in a dispute between two sides in which one of the sides is constantly acting in bad faith.”

‘The Jerusalem Post suggested that Rubio’s assault on Trump’s views on the Middle East was designed to win Florida. If that’s the case, it’s apparently not working — in the Real Clear Politics averaging of GOP primary polls in the state, Trump is polling higher than he ever has.’

‘Jacob Heilbrunn, author of They Knew They Were Right: The Rise of the Neocons, suggested in July 2014 that neoconservatives might be preparing to ally with Hillary Clinton. With Trump’s ascendancy, it’s possible that the parties will reorient their views on war and peace, with Trump moving the GOP to a more dovish direction and Clinton moving the Democrats towards greater support for war.’

Hillary the war hawk is not the parties realigning. That’s a single Dem Hillary committing treason against the remaining Dems.

Hillary’s only real base is the nose-holder votes, and she is only barely holding on to them right now. If she turns war hawk on the Middle East, she would lose most of those nose-holder voters, every Sanders voter, every moderate on the fence, and all of the centrist military who turned Dem for Obama.

In such a scenario, Bloomberg is likely to jump in, which would just throw the Presidency to Trump. If it’s too late for Bloomberg to run, most Dem votes will stay home, throwing the Presidency to Trump and Congress to the Republicans.

I realize this is a troll question, but there’s a huge difference psychologically between a war vet injured in the line of duty and a POW who has been tortured and subject to extreme mental and physical duress. Of the latter, due to the extreme psychological damage done, the only ones that can be trusted are those who didn’t crack under torture. The rest need care, kindness and a very calm environment. perhaps the NYT might wish to own up to the fact that one of its owners, Carlos Slim, had an older brother, Julian, who was a member of Mexico’s government secret police accused of torturing and disappearing leftist rebels, or that his family has ties to the fascist Lebanese Phalangists who massacred Palestinians, or that Genghis Kahn is his hero:

There is value in the kkk.
If you cannot see the absolute value in a boogie man that has no defense of their position but survives with zeal and is strengthened by your mere thought of them, you are valueless as to your opinion or cause, because you are blind as to the value of a powerless threat as a useful tool.

There is a fair chance someone in your area is kkk. If you haven’t burned them out, you might need to shut the hell up about who was a kkk advocate 1927.

The democrats filibustered Civil Right Laws all through the 1960s.

It was long process. It took a couple of decades for the segregationists to make the switch. In some cases there were families that had been Democrats for 100 years and it wasn’t easy for them to support the party of Abraham Lincoln.

The role of the parties during those days is interesting. As you state, LBJ was getting resistance from members of his own party when he tried to pass civil rights legislation. The same thing among the Republicans. Barry Goldwater famously opposed federal civil rights efforts, while other Republicans, such as Everett Dirksen, supported them.

So the civil rights movement was out there organizing, protesting, marching and so forth, and it pressure on the system, getting votes from member of both parties. The parties were unimportant at that point.

I don’t get the cynicism. As a poster said the other day, this isn’t about Trump. It’s more about a huge section of the electorate rejecting wars and globalism. I’m not saying I will support anybody, but I am glad to see someone stand up and say, for instance, I’ll be an honest broker between the Israelis and the Palestinians. And the voters in the GOP support him! That’s what is significant. They are rejecting the neocons.

It was a few weeks ago that I posted an article by Dan Sanchez on Libya and Mike took the whole thing off on the word amazon. It struck me like a bolt - dang, I’m arguing on the internet.

It’s one thing to discuss, make a point, counter-points. It’s another to argue for arguments sake.

http://www.montypython.net/scripts/argument.php

Man: Is this the right room for an argument?

Other Man:(John Cleese) I’ve told you once.

Man: No you haven’t!

Other Man: Yes I have.

M: When?

O: Just now.

M: No you didn’t!

O: Yes I did!

M: You didn’t! ….

M: Oh look, this isn’t an argument!

(pause)

O: Yes it is!

M: No it isn’t!

(pause)

M: It’s just contradiction!

O: No it isn’t!

M: It IS!

O: It is NOT! …

(pause)

M: I came here for a good argument!

O: AH, no you didn’t, you came here for an argument!

M: An argument isn’t just contradiction.

O: Well! it CAN be!

M: No it can’t!

M: An argument is a connected series of statements intended to establish a proposition.

O: No it isn’t!

M: Yes it is! ’tisn’t just contradiction.

O: Look, if I *argue* with you, I must take up a contrary position!

M: Yes but it isn’t just saying ‘no it isn’t’.

O: Yes it is!

M: No it isn’t! …

M: No it ISN’T! Argument is an intellectual process. Contradiction is just the automatic gainsaying of anything the other person says.

O: It is NOT!

M: It is!

O: Not at all!

M: It is!

(The Arguer hits a bell on his desk and stops.)

O: Thank you, that’s it.

M: (stunned) What?

O: That’s it. Good morning.

M: But I was just getting interested!

O: I’m sorry, the five minutes is up.

M: That was never five minutes just now!!

O: I’m afraid it was.

M: (leading on) No it wasn’t…..

O: I’m sorry, I’m not allowed to argue any more. …

M: I don’t want to argue about it!

O: Well I’m very sorry but you didn’t pay!

M: Ah hah! Well if I didn’t pay, why are you arguing??? Ah HAAAAAAHHH! Gotcha!

O: No you haven’t!

M: Yes I have! If you’re arguing, I must have paid.

O: Not necessarily. I *could* be arguing in my spare time.

M: I’ve had enough of this!

O: No you haven’t.

M: Oh shut up!

(Man leaves the office)

We have to ask ourselves, to what end? What’s the point? Because the only thing we have is time.

So put a candle in the window
And a kiss upon my lips
As the dish outside the window
Fills with rain
Oh and just like a stranger
With the weeds in your heart
Pay the fiddler off
Till I come back again

And it’s time time time
And it is time time time
And it’s time time time that you love
And it’s time time time

“The Long History of Government Meddling In The American Marketplace”

http://www.zerohedge.com/news/2016-02-29/long-history-government-meddling-american-marketplace

Decades of price fixing, supply distorting and market bottlenecking has resulted in a moribund economy, crushing levels of unemployment and collapsing demand.

Still think socialism is a good idea?

Comment by palmetto
2016-03-01 07:03:10

I’ve been thinking of this idea of socialism and re-distributive ideology recently. I had one of those “Duh!” moments about how it benefits companies like Apple (just picking that one out of the hat, not targeting)

Let’s say a guy makes good money and has enough to buy some gadget that might be out of reach to another guy. Heck, maybe the guy making good money has enough to maybe buy his kids a gadget or two, also.
This is great for Apple. What’s even greater is if you can tax the guy making good money enough so that, through housing, health, education and other subsidies, the guy for whom the gadgets might have been out of reach, now can also have a gadget, and maybe even his kids can, too. That’s even better for Apple, no? Make it just hard enough for the guy with the good income to get those gadgets, while making it a little easier for the guy with less. Presto! Consumer Communism!

I’ve also been giving some thought to the various “charitable” organizations like Catholic Charities and Lutheran Ministries who are on the government payroll, big time, and how it’s a form of forced giving.

U.S. shale’s message for OPEC: above $40, we are coming back
Reuters By Devika Krishna Kumar

Nimble shale drillers are now helping mitigate the nearly 70-percent slide crude price rout by cutting back output, but may also limit any rally by quickly turning up the spigots once prices start recovering from current levels just above $30.

The threat of a shale rebound is “putting a cap on oil prices,” said John Kilduff, partner at Again Capital LLC. “If there’s some bullish outlook for demand or the economy, they will try to get ahead of the curve and increase production even sooner.”

‘It doesn’t matter if it’s Feb. 29 or March 1, it’s the same old story for San Francisco’s housing market. Or is it? Depending on which electronic news source you read, it’s either impossible for most everyone in the city to afford the current median home price, or super impossible. We’re talking 11 percent and 8 percent of people living here can afford to buy a home here, folks. As for the discrepancy, it appears SFGate just flat read the report wrong (it’s those extra-February-day blues apparently), but the figures are scary nevertheless.’

‘Unless you have $240,000 under your mattress and a solo or combined household income of $250,000, you might as well start checking the listings in Portland (wait, they don’t want you either).’

‘The real meat of the story is the fact that this kind of data was floating around right before the world economy — and especially our mortgage-backed own — imploded like a supernova 8 years ago.’

‘Business Insider points out that it’s the end of days for SF’s housing market thanks to a few factors. There’s a crap ton of housing “in the pipeline,” which means permits are filed or shovels are already deep in the ground. We’re talking more than 60,000 units, with a bunch anticipated to be market-ready this year.’

‘But houses only command big prices if there is big money vying for them. Locally, this big money comes from venture-backed companies. And, maybe the scariest of all, the startup world is (gasp) struggling. We saw this coming too back in January.’

‘The city’s long-running economic driving force, that was supposed to make us the envy of all other cities, is running on fumes. And when the venture capital dries up, so too do all those perk-heavy jobs that might pay enough to afford a home here.’

‘So what’s next? Hard to say. With all the homes in the pipeline, it’s enough to accommodate some 137,000 potential new residents. Yes, we know the city is currently about 850,000 strong and feels as dense as a fruitcake. That means there will be a lot of empty units, and expensive ones.’

If you drill for oil you need to be near the oil fields, if you work for a construction company you need to be on the construction site, but tech mainly means we are mobile people. All these companies show how we can be interconnected without being near each other - why do these tech co panties have to be centrally located? Why not move out to different areas of the country and tout that as a perk?

Taxpayers, there are several reasons for the 5-year plan.
1. There aren’t enough seats in prerequisite classes to finish the upper level classes in four years.
2. Difficult majors like traditional engineering have so much material that students take 4 classes in a semester instead of five just to keep a decent GPA.
3. Students change majors midstream and have to piece together new classes and pre-reqs.
4. Students double major.
5. And yes, students fail and re-take.

Salinasron, to be honest, I would not object to allowing college grads to discharge tuition in BK. But it should be for tuition and fees only, with receipts. Not books or room and board. They should take the credit hit, but also stay on the hook for their partying and pizza runs, garnishing from SS if need be.

Nor do I see why there is such an objection to “free community college.” Not 20 years ago, wasn’t state college already practically free? I remember paying full-time tuition for less than $2000/year. And this was in the mid-90’s, at a well-respected state school. Nobody objected then, why now?

Yes, but the amount that she paid may have paid for around a quarter of the cost of her education, with the taxpayers of her state providing the rest.

‘The hugely inefficient state sector employed around 37 million people in 2013 and accounts for about 40 percent of the country’s industrial output and nearly half of its bank lending.’

‘The funds currently being offered will do little to resolve the problems of debts held by zombie firms, which could overwhelm local banks if they are not handled correctly.’

“They have proposed this dedicated fund only to pay the workers, but there is no money for the bad debts, and if the bad debts are too big the banks will have problems and there will be panic,” said Xu Zhongbo, head of Beijing Metal Consulting, who advises Chinese steel mills.’

‘Factories shut down would have to repay bank loans to avoid saddling state banks with a mountain of non-performing loans, the sources said. “Triangular debt”, or money owed by firms to other enterprises, would also have to be resolved, they added.’

How are they going to repay loans if they shut down?

GOP descending into civil war over a Trump candidacy
The Washington Post

MADISON, Ala. - The implosion over Donald Trump’s candidacy that Republicans had hoped to avoid arrived so virulently this weekend that many party leaders vowed never to back the billionaire and openly questioned whether the GOP could come together this election year.
At a moment when Republicans had hoped to begin taking on Hillary Clinton - who is seemingly on her way to wrapping up the Democratic nomination - the GOP has instead become consumed by a crisis over its identity and core values that is almost certain to last through the July party convention, if not the rest of the year.

A campaign full of racial overtones and petty, R-rated put-downs grew even uglier Sunday after Trump declined repeatedly failed in a CNN interview to repudiate the endorsement of him by David Duke, a former grand wizard of the Ku Klux Klan. Trump had disavowed Duke at a news conference on Friday, but he stammered when asked about Duke on Sunday.

Paul Ryan rebukes Trump’s remarks on KKK, David Duke
By Paul Kane March 1 at 10:37 AM
Without addressing Trump by name, Speaker Paul D. Ryan noted that the Republican presidential campaign had veered into topics such as views on “white supremacists” that should prompt “no evasion” of the topic other than repudiation of those values. (AP Photo/J. Scott Applewhite)

House Speaker Paul D. Ryan (R-Wis.) issued a stern rebuke Tuesday to the his party’s presidential front-runner, calling Donald Trump’s recent equivocation about receiving support from white supremacists a “fundamental” break from conservative orthodoxy.

“This party does not prey on people’s prejudices,” Ryan told reporters at the weekly House GOP leadership news conference.

Without addressing Trump by name, Ryan noted that the Republican presidential campaign had veered into topics such as views on “white supremacists” that should prompt “no evasion” of the topic other than repudiation of those values.

It was a clear reference to Trump’s recent comments and actions in which he has said that he needs to further study the views of David Duke, a former Klan leader from Louisiana who has encouraged listeners of his talk show to back Trump, as well as to social media comments and tweets that seem to endorse the views of known racists.

“When I see something that runs counter to who we are as a party and as a country, I will speak up, so today I want to be very clear about something,” Ryan said. “If a person wants to be the nominee of the Republican Party, there can be no evasion and no games. They must reject any group or cause that is built on bigotry. This party does not prey on people’s prejudices. We appeal to their highest ideals. This is the party of Lincoln.”

For a couple of weeks now, the E-V site has been floating the idea that R party bosses’ only hope of beating Trump is to manipulate the primaries into a brokered R convention. Once there, if nobody wins a majority on the 1st or 2nd ballot, the bosses can circumvent the primary candidates entirely and nominate a consensus favorite, Paul Ryan. (this is the E-V speculation)

It is not lost on me that Ryan is suddenly resurfacing in the media. Not two days ago there was an article on Ryan’s very NOT heart-healthy family history. And now he’s weighing in on the primaries. Somebody call the Goonster, because it looks like the media is trying build a narrative.

How pot farmers do math.

The Question “So like I said is there anyine who knows how to calculate ppm of abamectin in a gallon of water when you add 1.25ml of avid (2% abamectin) to 1 gallon of water….”

How to do it My calculations 1.25ml x .02 = 0.025ml active chemical so 3.785 L / .000025 L = 151400 = 6.6ppm

The pot farmer answer “I’m not 100% sure but sounds like .005 ppm abamectin.”

How great republics meet their end
Martin Wolf
The Americans will have to decide what sort of person they want to put in the White House

What is one to make of the rise of Donald Trump? It is natural to think of comparisons with populist demagogues past and present. It is natural, too, to ask why the Republican party might choose a narcissistic bully as its candidate for president. But this is not just about a party, but about a great country. The US is the greatest republic since Rome, the bastion of democracy, the guarantor of the liberal global order. It would be a global disaster if Mr Trump were to become president. Even if he fails, he has rendered the unthinkable sayable.

Mr Trump is a promoter of paranoid fantasies, a xenophobe and an ignoramus. His business consists of the erection of ugly monuments to his own vanity. He has no experience of political office. Some compare him to Latin American populists. He might also be considered an American Silvio Berlusconi, albeit without the charm or business acumen. But Mr Berlusconi, unlike Mr Trump, never threatened to round up and expel millions of people. Mr Trump is grossly unqualified for the world’s most important political office.

Yet, as Robert Kagan, a neoconservative intellectual, argues in a powerful column in The Washington Post, Mr Trump is also “the GOP’s Frankenstein monster”. He is, says Mr Kagan, the monstrous result of the party’s “wild obstructionism”, its demonisation of political institutions, its flirtation with bigotry and its “racially tinged derangement syndrome” over President Obama. He continues: “We are supposed to believe that Trump’s legion of ‘angry’ people are angry about wage stagnation. No, they are angry about all the things Republicans have told them to be angry about these past seven-and-a-half years”.

Mr Kagan is right, but does not go far enough. This is not about the last seven-and-a-half years. These attitudes were to be seen in the 1990s, with the impeachment of President Clinton. Indeed, they go back all the way to the party’s opportunistic response to the civil rights movement in the 1960s. Alas, they have become worse, not better, with time.

Why has this happened? The answer is that this is how a wealthy donor class, dedicated to the aims of slashing taxes and shrinking the state, obtained the footsoldiers and voters it required. This, then, is “pluto-populism”: the marriage of plutocracy with rightwing populism. Mr Trump embodies this union. But he has done so by partially dumping the free-market, low tax, shrunken government aims of the party establishment, to which his financially dependent rivals remain wedded. That gives him an apparently insuperable advantage. Trump is no conservative, elite conservatives complain. Precisely. That is also true of the party’s base.

Mr Trump is egregious. Yet in some respects the policies of his two leading rivals, Senators Cruz and Rubio, are as bad. Both propose highly regressive tax cuts, just like Mr Trump. Mr Cruz even wishes to return to a gold standard. Mr Trump says that the sick should not die on the streets. Mr Cruz and Mr Rubio seem to be not quite so sure.

Yet the Trump phenomenon is not the story of just one party. It is about the country and so, inevitably, the world. In creating the American republic, the founding fathers were aware of the example of Rome. Alexander Hamilton argued in the Federalist Papers that the new republic would need an “energetic executive”. He noted that Rome itself, with its careful duplication of magistracies, depended in its hours of need on the grant of absolute, albeit temporary, power to one man, called a “dictator”.

It is unwise to assume constitutional norms in the US would survive the presidency of someone who neither understands nor believes in them.

The US would have no such office. Instead, it would have a unitary executive: the president as elected monarch. The president has limited, but great, authority. For Hamilton, the danger of overweening power would be contained by “first, a due dependence on the people, secondly, a due responsibility”.

London Bubble Trouble - Visas Issued To Wealthy Foreigners Plunge 84%
Tyler Durden’s picture
ZeroHedge - 03/01/2016

It appears the music may have finally stopped for one of the world’s largest luxury real estate bubbles: London.

It’s well known that foreign oligarchs love London real estate as a means to launder funds, typically “earned” by soaking their host countries dry via corruption and fraud. This has caused absurd and irrational spikes in high-end residential real estate in the English capital, as well as a flood of new construction.

The number of wealthy investors granted visas to live in the U.K. fell 84 percent last year after the government doubled the minimum investment required for the permit to 2 million pounds ($2.8 million) in November 2014.

New checks that mean applicants have to go through anti-money laundering due diligence checks may also be restricting demand, according to Transparency International U.K., a non-profit organization that monitors corruption. The decline in the number of people being granted the visas may be bad news for developers. There are plans to construct more than 25,000 luxury properties in the city over the next decade, according to data compiled by consulting firm Arcadis.

It’s pretty simple. Take away the criminal money and London luxury real estate has no where to go but down. For example, check out the following excerpts from a different Bloomberg article titled, Luxury Home Prices in Central London Fall Most Since June 2009:

He could hire Monica to be his “personal aide”. Or better yet, a younger filly.

The news on China’s economy seems to keep getting worse and worse. I propose a ban on any further references to Trump through November 2016 so we can get back to the important business of documenting China’s economic implosion.

Fresh data confirms Chinese economic slowdown
1 March 2016

Fresh data from China has confirmed its economy is continuing to lose steam.

Two major official and private indexes used to gauge the country’s manufacturing activity indicate a worsening contraction in the sector.

The bad news comes just after the central bank’s latest stimulus measure to boost liquidity.

China’s slowing growth has been dragging the global economy as Beijing hopes for a shift towards services and consumption in its domestic market.

Tuesday’s government data shows that activity in China’s manufacturing sector shrank for the seventh straight month in February.

Coming in below market expectations, the Purchasing Manager’s Index (PMI) fell to 49.0, down from 49.4 the previous month.

The index is used as an indicator of factory activity, and any reading below the 50 mark points at a contraction in the sector.

Aside from the government data, the private Caixin-sponsored PMI, which focuses on smaller companies, came in even worse at 48.0 for February, marking the lowest reading in five months.

More stimulus

The disappointing figures were released only one day after the central bank had reduced the so-called reserve rate ratio for banks, which is the amount banks must hold in reserve.

In Beijing’s latest attempt to tackle slowing growth, the cut is aimed at boosting liquidity, making it easier for banks to lend money.
